BENIDORM actor Jake Canuso looks unrecognisable from his days as the hit sitcom’s hot barman.
The actor, 53, rose to notability in the UK thanks to his role as flirty Mateo Castellanos in Benidorm between 2007 and 2018.
He was the show’s longest-serving character having appeared in all 74 episodes of the show opposite stars such as Crissy Rock and Sherrie Hewson.
However, the star has undergone a huge transformation in order to take on a new role alongside a slew of stars for a top film.
Jake will play the role of Alejandro, a pig farmer, in the movie, Fyre Rises.
Spider-Man actor and Hollywood star Eric Roberts will co-star in the film alongside a variety of British talent.
Three famous faces from EastEnders will take on roles alongside Jake including current star Harriet Thorpe as well as Steven Beale actor Aaron Sidwell and Gianni di Marco’s Marc Bannerman.
A synopsis for the release reads: “Debt-ridden pacifist Richard Fyre is propositioned to return to his abandoned mercenary ways by a flamboyant zealot, Priest, to eliminate his international competition in exchange for a clean slate.”
Little else is yet known about the project but filming is thought to have been completed with a release date pending.
In recent years, Jake has become a leading name on the pantomime circuit racking up a whole host of credits with some big-money deals.
Famous faces are known to earn a pretty penny for signing up to the family favourite show so it makes no surprise that Jake has signed on to so many.
He appeared in Aladdin in 2014 in Birmingham before heading to Bradford for Jack and the Beanstalk the following year.
Last year he returned to Aladdin in the role of Abanazar for an acclaimed performance in Rhyl, Wales.
Previously a dancer, Jake appeared dressed as a ballet dancer in the music video for No More I Love Yous by Annie Lennox and also appeared in the video of Alex Party’s 1995 hit single Don’t Give Me Your Life, as well as the video for Carter USM’s Let’s Get Tattoos and 2 unlimited’s 1995 hit, Here I go.
